Flea and Stuart Zender are BOTH very good bass players!! people should stop doing stupid comparisons! i love the red hot chili peppers and jamiroquai! and if one day stuart and flea would play 2gether i would DIE! LOL

@Tsukasa135 I appreciate your comments and you are so right about so much. The callouses, yes as so many guitarists have on their hands, even a bassist has callouses. I am not that familiar with Flea's technique but it is possible that he slides his fingers too much on a string rather than lifting and moving his fingers (ala les Paul, who is the master of this technique). Possibly the cause of his bleeding. I have removed Flea from my list of " among the best" as he is not.

@Lonewolf36 Just cuz Flea plays until he bleeds doesn't mean his playing is intense, or good, or anything. He makes some decent lines, but you can chalk his bleeding up to insufficient practice time, poor technique, and possibly bad strings. If he was half as good as you're claiming him to be, he would play enough to have callouses that would almost never break. Also, his slapping is typically rudimentary at best.

It always astounds me how bass players always seem so cool. They just stand there sorta dancin and jammin away on their guitar while the singer leaps crazily around...every time.
