I'm just posting this to so I can show the repair technician, who is on the opposite coast from me, what my sewing machine is doing. It started malfunctioning after 11 hours and 53 minutes of actual sewing time, while on a surge protector. That was back in October 2009. This is how it has been working since it came back from being repaired. Those are supposed to be fancy decorative stitches and letters I am selecting in the video. Sometimes, if I turn the machine on and off, it sews the correct stitches. Other times, it just makes them up at random. http://elizabethruffing.com/2010/05/my-viking-platinum-775-repair-issues.html
Thanks :) It's still being worked on. Yes, one step motor needed to be replaced, and the tech thinks this is the second step motor needing to be replaced. So, it will have had both replaced once he's done. I hope that will take care of it. He said he's seen this too, and that there was a batch of bad step motors, as you said. The Viking company wouldn't honor the warranty, so I couldn't get it fixed here, but the original seller is going to. He's a retired Viking dealer. I had to ship it there.
