At Seventeen - Janis Ian (tutorial - 1 - the song)

I was recently watching RevelingInReverie's cover of this fantastic song by Janis Ian. And I noticed from videos that Janis plays this two ways, so I thought that I'd take a look at how she plays it in her more recent performances. I think that I've got it just about right. The guitar is tuned to CGDGBE. This is part one of a tutorial, which just runs through the song so that you know what I'm taking about in the second section. This song is a masterpiece: both lyrics and music are great and it's not that difficult so it's an excellent song to learn.

Wonderful song and great tuning that I not having yet tried, thanks a lot for all your efforts for sharing this tutorial. I know how difficult and tedious it can be to do such a guide through a song. I think I got most of it, I just have to play it over and over again along with your explanations !

@jipes Cheers Jipes. I think this tuning is usually called Dropped C - Dropped D is standard with the 6th to D, and Dropped C has a G on the 5th and low C on the 6th. I think this is one of Richard Thompson's tunings. I hope you have fun playing this great song. I think Claude François used the tune for one of his songs.

@shahjahan93 Thanks, this is not really supposed to be a cover, more a tutorial showing how to play the song, so I didn't concentrate that much on the vocals, apart from trying to get the notes about right. Glad you like it, it's a really great song.
