in Damascus? well that's odd, I completed the missions but I didn't see this guy..... I saw one in Acre (spotted at least 7 times because I could get it right ¬¬) but in Damascus I missed this dude

Timed mission? In Damascus? I always suck at these types of things in these games. Is this optional or mandatory?

It's mandatory that you complete a minimum number of side missions, of which there are several different types, so it is not mandatory that you do this particular mission or type at all. I think. I haven't played it in 3 years.

If i were to get AC2 without playing the 1st one, would there be things that i missed or are they unrelated?

Well they're definitely not unrelated, but I haven't played the sequel yet so I can't comment directly on how well they recap. Both of the games actually take place in the present / near future with a main character named Desmond who is reliving the memories of his ancestors, and the first one has a very cliff-hanger ending.
