I keep stumbling and bumbling around (and thoroughly enjoying it) in this Open D tuning (A D A D) on this Freshwater Octave Mandola and here's another resulting song experiment. This song simply uses diads (I think they're called) on the A and A strings and on the D and D strings, with all other strings providing droning accompaniment. This song is for a fellow teacher (Matt Wise) and so is named the Wise Rumble (a variation on the practice of naming songs jigs, hornpipes, planxties, strathspeys, etc., now there is the 'rumble' as a Celtic song variation...not sure if I'm violating any Irish conventions, and if so, I'll probably hear about it). The octave mandola is a handmade instrument from Scotland, made by Dave Freshwater.

  • nice tune - great sounding instrument.

  • Hey Bill: it's good to know you're still out there lurking in the hinterlands of Italy. I haven't been able to match your prolific output of songs on YouTube, either in quantity or quality, but I do what I can, whenever I can, which hasn't been often lately. I'm going to have to re-visit your videos. I've been a quick, lite, and infrequent visitor to YouTube lately.

  • That was just amazing.A number one hit if you align the tune to a theme.Possibly to a city like Cork.
