@lifevt94hellotoworld He is both though, he is in the same vein of conservative thought that came from England in the 1800. Edmund Burke, John Stuart Mill etc

It annoys me how Glenn Beck instantly calls Tomas Sowell a conservative. It is so that Sowell is well to the rightern side of politics, but that does not mean he is a conservative. The conservatives basis of political analysis, is mainly traditions. Accepting a political theory because it is old, not because it is rational nor well functioning, is stupid and ignorant. Tomas Sowell knows better than this. He is a libertarian, NOT a conservative.

Favourite economist

It's a shame there aren't more conservatives as intelligent as this man.
The GOP would maybe have a chance at forging a genuinely productive economic policy.

I love Sowell, but hate Beck. Regardless, if the only argument you have against taxes is that you will be undercut by places with less taxes, you have no argument.
The real argument is to show that if everywhere raised taxes on the rich, it still is a bad idea because it reduces relative investment and changes resources from what people want to what a third party (that doesn't much care) thinks that they want.

Seems like this book is very similar to Henry Hazlitt's book "Economics in One Lesson" although its probably still worth reading. The broken window fallacy can shed light on so many economic fallacies.

How do we duplicate Thomas Sowell?? We need thousands like him!!

@stonergeo33 Intellectuals and Society is one of the best books I've ever read. Far out-classes anything I read throughout my four years of college.

Why would anyone want to dabble beyond "Stage one thinking"

Thomas Sowell is fucking incredible. If only everyone in public school could watch all of his interviews and read his books.
I agree, but another Sowell book to consider is "Basic Economics." It will give a good introduction of the economic systems of the world and how they work. I am actually considering reading it again before I get to "Applied Economics."
