Watch the 65 foot schooner Appledore leave crowded Camden, Maine harbor under sail with a large load of sightseers. This is a relatively rare sight as schooners usually don't hoist sail until they reach the outer harbor.

  • Thank you for this. That's my daughter, the tall one, in the bow. I was in Camden nearly every weekend this summer and the only time they left under sail I was not there to see it. I was also there last Sunday morning Nov. 18th, when they sailed at sunrise for Key West. I videotaped that but have no idea how to get it on here. But, thanks again.

  • That would be Kalamazoo Kate? Delightful young lady. We watched the Appledore sail by under our deck over 300 times this summer and went out on it once. Hope they get to Key West safely. Look forward to seeing them again next summer. Jack and Sue in Nags Head, NC

  • But the Maine flag IS moving...look again. Anyway, Jack and Sue, that's Kalamazoo Kate. I sailed on Appledore again yesterday, and am uploading the video as I type this...but alas, Katie is in Alaska right now :-(

"Well, Appledore is clearly not sailing out of Camden Harbor, there isn't a wisp of wind to move her per the telltale flags on the masts"

You can see the telltales? I can only see reef points... must be my landlubber eyes..

  • You tell em Evan

  • Well, Appledore is clearly not sailing out of Camden Harbor, there isn't a wisp of wind to move her per the telltale flags on the masts. And you can see and clearly hear the water coming out of the wet exhaust off the transom. Stupid landlubbers, you're all probably tourists from Massachusetts.

  • She's still a beauty, sailed on Appledore Fall Seamester 1983

  • the sails are up, but this boat is motoring out of the harbor!
