Darel Dieringer outduels Dave MacDonald to win the 1963 NASCAR Golden State 400 at Riverside International Raceway. The video shows MacDonald's teammate Marvin Panch getting the hole shot and taking the early lead but Freddy Lorenzen roared past him before the end of the first lap. MacDonald (92 laps), Dieringer (35) & Lorenzen (21) were the only drivers to lead in this race and MacDonald had his Wood Bros Ford out front on lap 97 when he lost 3rd gear and had to run the rest of the way in two gears. Dave had built a sizeable lead to that point but Dieringer slowly reeled him in and took the lead for good on lap 119. MacDonald & Panch finished 2nd & 3rd and gave the Wood Bros their best showing of the year
