I play this song live in standard as well. It just takes little more effort. I learned a technique from an Eric Johnson instructional for harmonics that allows you to have the same sound as the song without open E tuning. Hold an open E chord. With your right hand hold you pinky, ring and middle fingers straight toward the ground and sweep the strings with your palm resting lightly over the twelvth fret then over the seventh. It sounds just like the harmonics do with open E tuning.
OPEN E, DO IT RIGHT!!! ITS SOO MUCH EASIER TRUST ME!!! THE HARMONICS SOUND AMAZING, 12, AND 7, NOOO... BEGINERS DONT WANNA LEARN IN STANDARD, IF ITS BEGINNERS LESSON, THEL WANNA LEARN TO PLAY IT IN OPEN E DUDE, ITS WAY EASIER.
i always try to look at the positives. But... i am sick of trying to find lessons on cool songs and finding your usless videos. Please stop posting!!!! You are everywhere and i find myself watching you like a train wreck.
dude your harmonics are "horrible" because your in standard and your 12th fret harmonics are e a d g b e while in open e tuning you would get e b e g# b e wich would sound right so if you stay in standard just leave out the harmonics...srv cal and response??? r u makin this up

@Alexander40801grr he has another lesson for open E. If you play live you don't want to tune for every song! THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK

Everyone here is correct. There is no DMaj in this song. it is a BMaj. and i would actually use the Bar chord based on the E to hit it.

If you're going to play the song and try to teach it, then I suggest you tune your guitar to an open E tuning and do it right. Just sayin'

He's not going to get the same harmonics sound they get on the album because he's in standard tuning.
