The Temptations - I Wish It Would Rain

I hope YouTube doesn't remove this version. Please YouTube I posted this video to COMMENT on how great this song is with no expecations of anything. Yes, I am CRITICIZING YouTube for their actions on other videos that have been removed but also am TEACHING, I hope, that music should not be censored by greed in this forum of us little people and "et al". This version is cut from another YouTuber' video, thanks to the original poster.

This song was written by Roger Penzabene. His first song in the trilogy was "You're My Everything", written as a testament to his love for his wife. After learning of her cheating he was heartbroken. He then wrote "I Wish It Would Rain' describing his pain, then finally "I Could Never Love Another" to finish the trilogy of how he felt.

Unable to handle the extreme pain and unwilling to leave his wife, he wrote the last two songs as personal statements to her, publicizing the pain she caused him. After both songs were completed and recorded, tragically Roger committed suicide.

I never bought another Temptations record after ruffin left- there were only 2 that were any good- Just my Imagination and the song done with the supremes but that doesn't really count since it was both groups. I never knew this story but it does seem that all my favorite lyrics were to songs written by someone prior to suicide. Your my everything was one of my all time favorite Temps songs-- Roger Penzabene was a hell of a writer! R.I.P. to all the boys who have now gone on ahead.

My opinion is that this talented writer was a bit unhinged. He also wrote I could never love another and your're my everything , which makes it sort of a trilogy. Talented disturbed man the only person u should love that much is Jesus Christ can I get a amen!

"I Wish It Would Rain” had been out less than two weeks when songwriter Roger Penzaben took his life on New Year’s Eve, 1967. He had a troublesome relationship with his wife, who this song was written about. He was unable to handle her leaving him for someone else. I thank God that I have never loved anyone that deeply and pray that I never will...

I have love this song since I was in College as a freshmen. Later I would sign with Motown Records after college as a writer & producer,became dear friends with Norman Whitfield the producer of this song,who we lost a few years ago. But just in the last month I have found out the writer of this song wrote it about his wife,who had left him and he later killed himself because of the break up,so the lyrics now even have more meaning than ever before to me.Beautiful song,to a sad ending of a life.
