Booker T. is a great whistler too !!
-
@gittahfiend He's sung on a couple classic-era Stax tracks, including Johnny, I Love You from the MG's album Up Tight
-
@josreed Lead guitarist, the legendary STEVE "THE COLONEL" CROPPER who's even better today. He also co-wrote "MR. PITIFUL, "KNOCK ON WOOD & other songs. Plus knowing him, I can tell you , he's a helluva nice guy
-
Of course nobody but nobody can sing this like OTIS, BOOKER does a pretty good job (his vocals on 'GOTTA SERVE SOMEBODY" are better) and he really should sing more. I've heard CROPPER sing this live. Again not bad ( with a slightish country air to his vocals) bot no one can put pathos into a song like MR. PITIFUL himself, OTIS REDDING

Just when I thought they couldn't be any more talented.....

BOOKER T, NEXT WWE CHAMP, SINGING ONE OF HIS CLASSICS

Great version of great song!
-
As one of the best bandleaders going and playing behind so many classic singers(Just think,Otis, Wilson,William Bell,Sam and Dave,Rufus and Carla Thomas,Johnny Taylor,Albert King,Mable John) is it any wonder he never sung..I think he thought he was not good enough. But time has shown here that indeed he was being a bit too coy and should of come out long ago..Go Booker.

Great tune.... done really well.
Funny I have seen video and video of Booker T and the MG's and I have never heard Booker T sing, not bad really.
These guys wrote all these masterpieces when they were just kids.

Steve Cropper wrote all but the line, "I watch the ships come in and I watch them roll away again," which Otis brought to the session. Steve wrote the rest, produced the session & played the now-classic guitar licks on the song.
