Personally i do not think Legba is to be feared, unless u r not honouring him in the way that is acceptable or not treating him with respect.

@sweetasssong funny you say Esu... As I recently connected Legba with Esus of the Gauls... Because Esus is considered to be MErcury... which is HErmes and that takes us right to Thoth! Sumerian equivilant to Thoth is Ningishzidda... whom is considered to be Quetzacotl... The feathered Serpent... Thoth is often depicted as an Ibis (bird)... Legbas veve looks like the Cross of Thoth...

Well, from what I have read and heard, you have to be very careful with Legba, you have to have his veve and have his favorite offerings and be very careful because legba can be harmful but Babalu Aye is good, Yemanya is good, Oshun is good but you need Legba to open the paths to them. But I think a having an experienced priest/priestess would be best.
