Murali robot

This is the first intelligent field robot designed and fabricated in Sri Lanka. It can carry a metal detector to detect anti-personal landmines. The short form MURALI comes from Moratuwa University Robot for Anti-Landmine Intelligence. It is an outcome of Dr. Thrishantha Nanayakkara's laboratory for intelligent field robots at the University of Moratuwa. The pioneering group of students were: Lasitha Piyathilaka, Asela Manathunga, Waruna masinghe, Chanka Lloyd, and Akila Subasinghe.

Our dream is to help the civilians affected by the civil war in Sri Lanka to re-settle in their original farmlands as fast as possible.

good but not good enough for our fast track IDP resettlement proess. If we use these robots to do deminning in Sri Lanka we won't be able to resettle IDPs during this generation. That may be the reason for government to not to support this. Hope to see a practical solution from our engineers.

And, the Government had 7 years since 2003 to suggest improvements. It won't cost more than Rs. 5million to get a working system. But due to some reason, the SL Government prefered to import a Rs. 270 million monster that destroys all vegetation, exposing the top soil layer to erosion. All farmers don't like that approach. Yes, of course it is fast track, but the track doesn't lead anywhere.

Education and being brainwashed are two different things. We criticise what needs to be criticised while working productively. The intension is to improve things. Above are all our attempts to help productively. We are proud of it.

Missed the point again. Area reduction helps to demine much faster than destroying every square inch without any sense. But if the latter is the choice, the Government could have requested the universities way back in 2005 to take that approach to develop a monster. It does not cost Rs. 270 million.

If we can clear the lands and start farming for few years then the lands become fertile again. I am sure government must have considered these things.. Is that max you engineers can do? what a waste to our public money giving you lot freeengineering education.. At least copy things practical like chineese..

you just compare the two kind of demining possibilities w/o considering other constrains attached to the comparison. It sound good good in that way but by the time the other machine clears 10 square km your machine may clear 100 square miles. In other words the imported would do the job withing 3 months your one would take few generations to complete with so much extra costs( to maintaining IDPs for good 30 years, ..).

Manual deminers typically scan the ground with a metal detector at around 1m/sec. A robot carrying a metal detector can not go faster than that. In other words, we try to match the speed of a human worker with improved safety. And, this is not designed for actual demining. This is used in the area reduction phase, where human deminers first enter into an area to assess the threat level. And the grand objective is to do it with minimum damage to the vegetation to preserve the top soil layer.

thats the voice I like to hear. Sri lanka must follow the non materialism of Anagarika Dhramapala and make civil people not suffer going in to those materialism, but they hsould go to school and read books and learn so much things nad become top intelligent people in the world.
