Multiple Sclerosis or MS disables people when it damages the myelin sheath, the protective covering on nerves. Two Mayo Clinic researcher teams joined forces to find a way to reverse that damage in lab animals and regenerate the myelin sheath. Here, one of the lead researchers, L. James Maher III, Ph.D., explains the process of discovery and what it means for medicine. The findings appear in the journal PLoS ONE.
