All due respect to Lanye and the legecy that he left us. It has been 14 years since new material has come out from Alice In Chains. I am elated beyond words that Kip (Bill) can com in serve them justice. AIC is back and they r kicking ass baby!

Godsmack sucks dick and they stole that name from an AIC song. How dare you even compare shit like that to this great band. And to answer your question, yes, AIC can be AIC without Layne. Jerry has always been the primary songwriter. I love Layne dearly and truly miss him, but this band lives and I thank God every day for it. Fuck Godsmack.

That is exactly the point. Cantrell made AIC what it is way moreso than Layne. He played guitar, wrote a good majority of the lyrics, and sang from 40-50% of the vocals, and lead vox on a lot of the songs too.

It wouldn't make sense for Nirvana to continue without Kurt because Kurt wrote the majority of Nirvana's stuff and was the main driving force behind Nirvana. With Alice in Chains, however, although Layne had great influence over the music, Jerry was the main driving force behind the band. That is why Alice in Chains can continue without Layne. They need to move on and so do the rest of us.
