This short film is a tribute/parody of all those special effect movies I grew up watching with over-the-top non-stop action. Some references in this film include Star Wars and Quantum Leap.

If you're like me, you enjoy explosions, gun fights, super powers, lightsabers, action sequences, and anything involving ILM and WETA. I hope you enjoy the visual effects in this film.

I'd love to make more of these, so if you have any feedback on what you'd like to see or what worked/didn't work, let me know.

Music by Mitchell Covington.

  • You used After Effects for everything, even the titles? That's amazing. I have After Effects CS4 and even though I was happy with making titles in Premiere Pro CS4, I'm gonna try AE now. What version did you use?

  • I used AE for everything except for the 3D "FX Movie" logo. For that, I used Cinema 4D.

  • The quote in the beginning should probably say "visual effects" - Special effects are things done ON set such as explosions squibs, visual effects are things done in post.

  • Well, my movie was a tribute to effects in general, whether its done on set or in post. And I couldn't change the quote as Laurence Fishburne said "special" and not "visual". He was talking about the Matrix movies when he said it, which had most of the effects done in post. Maybe special effects and visual effects can be used interchangeably?

  • is the blue text at the end a reference to The Shining?

  • Thanks. Didn't use a video-editing program. Used the animation/compositing software Adobe After Effects.
