  • They could just blocked the island from any supply for 30 days...with naval ships all around. Enough time for japanese to starve and surrender

  • my grandfather was a medic in the 5th marines he as 39 years old he gave his hearing and i never could talk to him for his whole life

  • @crocfme The general bombing of Iwo was done with 500 and 1000 lb GP bombs, 1000lb AP bombs and some 4000lb AP. The results are tough to quantify, but as history showed the Japanese still had a lot of fight left. The Grand Slam was used against viaducts somewhere ( i forget the place) a caused mini earthquakes that destroyed the viaducts. I would bet they would have really hurt the Japanese defenders.

  • When I get old I want to have the lucidity and memory of John Lane: what a guy!!!!

  • Anyone know what type of bombs the '17s and '24s were using? I've often wonderred if it would have made a lot of difference if the British "Tallboy" and "Grand Slam" earthquake bombs had have been deployed in the pre-invasion bombardment.

  • @Historystartsnow it's obviously main artillery from a Battleship

  • lol what a trip, a friend of mine gave me this vid for christmas a couple of years ago first time ive ever seen it on youtube. Its a cool vid along with the other dvd that came with it about the building of the b29s.
