I absolutely love this movie. I used to live on Liberty St in Wind Gap and one of my fondest memories was running to get my free piece of bologna from the Speers meat truck. What a great, free spirited time to be a kid... Thanks so much for stirring up those times!!
I don't know about Speer's or Heard's' I KNOW that Pyshers' recipe came from Stine's market in Portland,PA.Hilda Stine Snyder worked at Pysher's market for a short time.Pysher's started selling ring balonie when she went to work there. Her father was Mott Stine, the owner of Stine's market formerly on State Street in Portland. There was also another butcher shop in Portland that made ring boloney. Both of these butcher shops no longer exist. There is a gun shop in the former Morey's building.
I also buy Pyshers bologna and drag it back to Florida every year. Now the guys at work through their money at me to bring them some. Damn near over weight on my check in bag!
When I was younger, I remember the Speers (at least I am pretty sure it was Speers) truck would come down Bray St. in East Bangor. He would stop and give us free samples of cheese and ring bologna. I miss that.
Pysher's Market has the best bologna ever. I grew up with it coming hot out of the smokehouse. I live in California now and can't wait to get a shipment and share with my friends here. They can't believe how great this is!! I am very proud to be a part of it. Love ya Tom!!
Awesome... It reminds me of the good olde days. I hate to admit it, I never liked ring bologna. My family sure does. We have our relatives get us a few rings when we come up from Tennessee. As a child I would walk to Heards. Love that place.
