Now, you couldn't pay a child to eat a tomato, like the little boy in the ad for Ketchup. And back then, there were no preservatives in that food either. It probably tasted better too. At least these children were eating pork and beans and drinking orange juice, the only one that looked scary was the little girl with that creepy toothy grin at the jelly sandwich.

that first one looked like spam...not sure if I would call that meat....but it does go with everything!

The people are scarier than the food

@UnoriginallyInclined She DOES look demented! I mean that expression over a freaking jelly sandwich.

Maybe the title shouldn't have been that the food was scary. But seriously, the child at 0:27 looked like a creeper. I don't know how anyone at any time in history could have thought that was cute.

I love this!!
This stuff's not scary. Where's the triple baconator? Where's the stuffed crust pizza? Where is the double down, the burger between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches, the fried twinkies? The 50's food was healthy compared to some of the things we eat today.

You've got to remember, nearly everyone in those days was fit and strong, physical activity was a part of their daily lives by necessity, it was important to have a large, nourishing diet to fuel that activitiy. Nowadays people can get by with a lot less labor intensive lifestyles, hence we see the rise in obesity.
