there is surprisingly strong bass actually. the setting for bass and treble is very accomodating for various tastes.

The only type of surface it would not sound good on is anything soft: pillow, blanket, sofa, etc..

It is awesome on the table, wooden floor, countertop, really anything solid.

In regards to the sound quality, sorry mr.Snob, but IT-20 beats the crap out of most of those battery-operated, or passivley powered from laptops portable speakers. It is they who has to try to catch up with iceKUBE. The degree of bass and treble fine-tuning on this thing is totally outstanding for this class.
