Roids or not i really miss watching this guy he was my favorite player as a kid him along with Mark Grace were my top to players for the cubs in the 1990's

TheBe4st is correct, the benefit of a corked bat is it makes the bat lighter, making the swing speed faster but the downside of a corked bat is the cork inside the bat absorbs energy created when the bat makes contact with the baseball. The energy created from contact with a corked bat is equal to half the energy a normal un-corked bat would produce.
This is all coming from the Mythbusters Baseball episode. It's one of my favourite episodes and you should definitely check it out if you can.

howtochow is right. i would assume the only benafit of a corked bat would be a MUCH faster bat speed. giving the batter a longer look at the pitch and making a more logical swing.
