Political and economic leaders of the world were fascinated by Korean culture and food, led by Arirang, the best-known Korean folk song, and kimchi.

The FKI held the Korea Night event at Morosani Schweizerhof Hotel in Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 28 with attendance of some 800 Korean and foreign guests.

The FKI presented a cultural performance at the gala event to express Korea's self-conceit as a global leader, which will host the G20 summit this year. Participants in the event were fascinated by Korean culture, especially the dynamic ballet performance by the Korean National Ballet Troupe.

In addition, a variety of Korean foods prepared by 16 top-class Korean chefs and food stylists, including kimchi and chop suey, attracted praises from foreign participants. In particular, President Lee Myung-bak offered and explained about various Korean foods for foreign guests.

Meanwhile, FKI Chairman S. R. Cho said, Over the past 60 years, Korea saw its national income increase 200 folds, becoming the world's No. 10 export powerhouse. Korea is a good business partner and the Korean market is fully open to foreign companies through active free trade policy. Also, Korea has many successful experiences in the nuclear power, plant and IT markets. Accordingly, I firmly believe Korean companies will become win-win business partners for foreign companies.

OECD General Secretary Angel Gurria also said, The Korea Night event was outstanding as it successfully heralded Korea's taste and charm to the world and gave many meanings for our future through harmony of the West and the East and green growth.

Among those on hand at the international event, the second in its kind, were President Lee Myung-bak, Il SaKong, chairman of the Group of 20 Summit Korea Coordination Committee, Minister of Knowledge Economy Kyung Hwan Choi, Rep. Mong Joon Chung of the ruling Grand National Party, FKI Chairman S. R. Cho, and SK Chairman Tae Won Chey.

Zimbabwe Prime Minister Wellington Chibebe, OECD General Secretary Angel Gurria, McKensey Chairman Dominic Barton, Standard Chartered Chairman Peter Sands and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Chairman Thomas J. Donohue also participated in the event.

  • "The FKI presented a cultural performance at the gala event to express Korea's self-conceit as a global leader,"

That makes no sense. When was that assertion made? And please do not base that on a news reporter.
