There's a fair bit of low-level warfare happening out there in cyberspace. This week, Google continues to investigate a serious hack of its own network, and the email of some of its users. The fall-out may mean that Google departs from China, turning away from the potential to make billions from one of the fastest growing internet markets.

How did we come to this, and can we trust our mail to online services? And from Europe comes the news that the German and French governments have called on their citizens to abandon using the Internet Explorer browser in order to improve security.
