I found the points were hardly opening and adjusted them.
I bought the service manual and found this mower used points, I thought it had electronic ignition. No more backfire when I turn it off.

I know this engine isn't running 100% either but good enough to get the lawn cleaned up before the snow falls. In spring I'll replace the points and capacitor and go back over the carb. I know I have it too rich and I'd like to adjust the points with my timing light. Glad this wasn’t a burned valve or half broken flywheel key.

Hey Willy, after you sent me the message, I went and cleaned and adjusted my points and the tractor runs good. Thanks man. I made a video and I will probably upload it in the next couple of days. The tractor still does not run perfect but I think that's because I messed with the carb when it wasn't running. Now I just have to figure out how to get it adjusted back to where it was and it should run fine.
