Marshall Thundering Herd - Game's final moments ECU 1970

Archival footage of Marshall's game at East Carolina in 1970. The plane carrying the Herd home from its game at ECU crashed near Tri-State Airport, killing all 75 aboard. The victims included 37 MU football players, five coaches, seven staff members, 21 community supporters and five crew of the DC-9 jetliner. This particular footage shows Marshall's last drive to get into tying FG range. It begins with a controversial intentional grounding call with 30 seconds left that moved MU out of FG range.

I read that another factor in the crash was that the airport had a Landing Tracking system (ILS, I think?) it wasn't using that night.

speaking from the knight nation, god bless the herd from the 70s and much respect to marshall for having the strength to bounce back from such a horrible tragedy. much respect for my school opponents last weekend.

@Commandert1TV it was because they were Freshman which back then they wouldn't allow Freshman to play. And there were Hurt players that didn't go on.

soprisrb first they were mostly all kids.. except for the coaches and boosters and second.. what a callous comment.

November 14th is my birthday and I remember all too well the events of that day. I'm a Bama fan first.. but for the last 40 years I have followed Marshall as well... and am proud of the progress they have made...
