PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN
FROM THE MORGAN HOTEL IN TEMPLE BAR
ast Second Magic are a Blanchardstown based four piece formed in August 2009 as an offshoot of the much heavier A Careless Thief.

Founded by ACT bassist Paul Hosford as an outlet for his folksy guitar leanings, he quickly recruited his ACT rhythm mate Ruth Gill, with Alan Maxwell on bass and Dan Stynes on guitar. Oisin Moran joined a month later, giving the band a much fuller, dynamic sound.

Gigging since October 2009, the band quickly set about recording their debut EP "Start To Breathe" with Fight Like Apes producer Lee Boylan.

The result is a full, rich 20 minute, five song journey through love, loss, expectation and the love/hate relationships Irish towns engender.

With "A Careless Thief", the EP's closer, the band show just how rounded their sound is. A soft intro leads to a stomping, anthemic chorus before an incendiary guitar solo from Moran steals the show. Just when the tempo is brought back down, it is revved up again as all four members shout out the ending.

Taking their respective influences and landing somewhere in a space between Dashboard Confessional, Counting Crows and REM, LSM bring energy and passion to their craft and, particularly, their live shows, where Hosford's energy, Stynes and Moran's guitar work and the rhythm of Maxwell and Gill combine to create a fun, enjoyable atmosphere.

"Start to Breathe" is available for free download at www.lastsecondmagic.bandcamp.com

The band have recently returned from Indie Week Torono 2010 and hope to have a 2nd EP released in early 2011
