The acting in this movie is uniformily excellent thanks to its powerhouse cast. But it's not realistic. If Alec Baldwin's character is as good as he says on closing deals, why don't Mitch & Murray just fire everybody & have Alec close all the sales? And nobody would put up with Alec's tirades. Is he supposed to provide these salesman with motivation...though the use of name calling & intimidation? Nine people out of ten would have walked out as soon as he opened his vile mouth.

I think Baldwin added the effin faggot line himself in the heat of the moment. To me it doesn't belong in this speech. Its one thing to ridicule their sales ablilties. But to call them faggots is going from business to getting personal. Rest of the speech is great. But this line doesn't really fit the speech.

very few performances that are perfect on film in part, this film is perfect in all performances throughout, and in combination with the written words, i never get tired of watching it, its like Stevie ray Vaughn playing Hendrix's voodoo child

at 4:23 my friend and I got into an argument about Baldwin's statement. I thought it was "have you made your decision, FOR CHRIST!!?"
My friend thought it was, "have you made your decision FOR Christ?" I don't think Baldwin was urging these sales guys to accept the lord into their hearts.

I used to do door to door canvassing (...an ironic thing to say, considering Baldwin's character's statement) for a charity. I don't know that I'd call it 'tough' work (it was one of the most memorable & enjoyable jobs I've had), but it was definitely luck-oriented. In my hometown, I'd close an average of 5 or so deals a week, canvassing about 500-600 homes. Out of town? I'd close 32 or so a week, easy.

Market saturation & community wealth have EVERYTHING to do with your success.

How many people wish Pacino was in this scene, just so that Baldwin's excellent tirade could be rebutted by an opposing but equally FUCK YOU speech?

At 2:08 does Baldwin stumble over his line "The good news is, you've got, all you've got..."? Never made up my mind about that one. Brilliant piece of acting by Baldwin nevertheless.

No, Mamet writes his dialogue with a specific rhythm. They rehearsed this material repeatedly before they filmed it. If Baldwin had screwed up, Mamet would have said something (he's the writer but he was almost certainly on the set).
