  • This may seem like a dumb question. But is mining coal (realistically) dangerous?

How often does someone die from mining coal underground?

  • This mine is a aboveground coal mine I work in an underground mine it is not as dangerous as you think, I have not heard of any deaths underground for a long time (about three years)

  • Looks like the guy filming this stayed in Dysart last night :)

  • Its safe but acidents happen.. eg 30 June 2010 - Two miners were injured at North Goonyella

This latest shuttle car accident comes just over three years after the accidental death of miner Jason Blee at Moranbah North, when he was pinned by a shuttle car against the rib of continuous miner.

At least seven miners have been pinned by shuttle cars in the Bowen Basin over the last four years alone.

  • The big peak downs, my grandad worked there for 35 years, my dad nearly 40 and myself going onto 2 and a half and encounting... Minings in my blood!!

  • @netgod2002 Very rarely. I worked at that very mine depicted right there. ;)

  • @thecuta Oh that's good to hear!

I'm thinking about getting into it for a couple of years and have been getting as much info as I can.

    Cheers for that!
