  • The drummer is Sonny Payne.

  • I wish I could find a drummer like Sonny Payne . . . I just love his energy!

  • happy birthday count basie

  • The other flutist is Eric Dixon...which is to sayof the two soloists...look on the FAR right where there's a third one: Charlie Fowlkes.

  • The other flutist is Eric Dixon...

  • Frank Wess is the flute player at right; who is the other flute player? Song is"The Swinging Shepherd Blues" by Toronto's Moe Kaufman.

  • can't thank you enough for posting this

  • Love the way the drummer spins the stick in the air and catches it at the very end.

This band is the epitome of coolness.

  • God bless you for posting this rare video. I'm a baby boomer and was lucky enough to see the Count live. When you think of big bands you don't think of a number like this - sublety and nuance. This is epitomy of Basie - quiet music, soloists... yet working as a team knowing that there is a rocking rhymn section, always, at the ready and a band that can expode on a dime.
