This is a reshoot of Finger Loop Braiding Lesson 1. I've split it into two videos. The first one is the full view from my hands to the anchor. The second video is a close up on my hands so you can see exactly what I'm doing.
In this video I'll show you the basic techniques and show you how to make the first braid. For the full lesson go to http://www.instructables.com/id/Multi...

  • SFHndymn - have you considered using different colors of cord/rope to make it easier for you viewers to see what you are teaching them?

Also - it would be nice to see you work with natural fibers.

Many thanks for the great instruction.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.

I want to also demonstrate how easy and quick the braids are. Multiple colors take a longer time to set up and believe me folks would be trying to make them the same way even if I suggested they try one color first. They'd get frustrated at the increased difficulty and either write me to diagnose their problems, or just get frustrated and stop trying. Starting as simple as possible is the best when learning a new fiber art.

  • I also was only able to find these two ropes in the same size. There isn't a large variety of colors for big inexpensive ropes in each size category (I'm not making money on any of this and can't spend a lot).

  • Jute is harder to see with the natural brown color and again a variety of colors in a large rope are rare. I know it is easy to dye but not in such a great quantity. Jute is usually kind of fuzzy, and wouldn't hold up to repeated braids. It also holds braids and knots very well, and it would have been difficult to pull the braids out quickly for the next take. A rope this size out of hemp would be very expensive.

I do appreciate the laudable goal of going natural.

    I'm glad you liked this.

  • Parabéns!!!

  • Thanks so much! I got some cotton string used for tying stacks of newspaper and in ten minutes I wove a simple headband. These are the best instructions!

  • Lovely instruction. By the way, the "cup" for making the bracelet you mentioned is called an end cap or cord caps for finishing the ends of leather cording or braiding. most jewelry supply shops would have them. And yes, these would make fantastic bracelets. Thanks so much for teaching!

  • Hey man. I'm trying to get this down but every time I do it I run into the same problem. It braids into 2 strands. Like 2 half square braids. It's really frustrating. Maybe you can tell me what i'm doing wrong? I'm using one piece of string just as you are in this video. One comtinuos loop made into 5. Thx for the video.

  • Wow! This is an awesome video!

I was just wondering how you start the braid...where are the ropes hanging from?

  • Thank you so much you cleared alot of things up for me!!!!

  • What a wonderful technique! Can't wait to try it (Com isn't anywhere near a spot to secure the rope/cord/thread)!!!

Thank you oh so much for sharing!!!
