Us doing fire training, we had to put out an aviation fuel fire with just 3 foam extinguishers, wa mad!

Wouldn't a non-stop attack be a lot more practical than this kind of spray, stop, spray, stop approach?

not really, doesnt work, as the foam smothers the fire, so just spraying will cause the foam to move on the surface, which will allow the fire to re-ignite, if you let it settle however it cant do that.

i couldnt believe it at the time either!

a powder extinguisher is better on a fire like that if its windy foam is usless in small amounts

Also note how they aren't aiming AT the fire (or the base of the flames, as you would with Co2, water, or power (on the relevant fire!), they're aiming UP, to get the foam to fall onto the fuel.
