Chasing the Bull is a film made by Jonathan Simcox, a member of the White Rose Kyudojo. Our previous films have concentrated on the external beauty of kyudo. This film, in contrast, explores the dynamics of the personal pursuit of the internal target.
Beginners are welcome at the White Rose Kyudojo, England, UK throughout the year. If you would like to come along to our friendly dojo in London to learn Kyudo, visit our website at www.japanese-archery.org.uk

Is Kyudo an aimed shot or an instinctive shot? How accurate can you get with this method of archery? What is a typical poundage for your long bows??

It is both aimed and instinctive, but it takes many, many years to achieve a level of proficiency. It is very different to Western archery in that hitting the 'correctly' is incredibly difficult. A beginner may employ various 'instinctive' but incorrect techniques to achieve a hit, but it is only after many years of training and self development that one can achieve a correct hit. Bow weight ranges from 8 kgs for beginners to over 20 kgs for more experienced kyudoka.
