Midway 1964 Flying Turns pinball machine at The Allentown Pinball Wizards Convention 2008

Here's a somewhat rare 1964 Midway "Flying Turns" pinball machine at The Allentown Pinball Wizards Convention on Friday, May 2, 2008. Midway made gun game classics such as "Flying Saucer," "Haunted House," and "Invaders From Outer Space," during the 60's and 70's. So, as you will see, this game is quite unique, featuring two cars that race around a track, and you score laps instead of points.

Can you tell me what makes the upper, outer lane "special" lights, light? I just bought one of these and have yet to see those light. Not sure if they are not getting signal or if I have not yet hit on the correct combination required to get them to light.
