i use reverse osmosis water, the tank is loaded with live plants and driftwood. the plants and wood act as natural filters. i have upgraded the tank to 65 gallons and changed the substrate to sand (much easier to clean and the rams love it ). i have a half dozen cory cats to keep the bottom clear of uneaten food and i allow algae to grow on the back glass. i have had the rams for 3 years and never had a problem.
