PlusFBI Used Aggressive Tactics in Anthrax ProbeFBI Used Aggressive Tactics in Anthrax ProbeThe Associated PressAuthorities investigating the 2001 anthrax attacks will begin meeting with victims' families Wednesday to discuss the case, family members said, an indication that some lingering questions in the investigation may soon be answered. (Aug. 5)While the FBI won't say what techniques it used to investigate Bruce Ivins ----before he killed himself last week----the 60-year-old Army scientist apparently disclosed some of his own suspicions about the case. The AP has learned ---that Ivins told friends the government stalked him and his family for months----even offering his son $2.5 million to rat him out.Ivins also believed investigators tried to turn his hospitalized daughter against him ----by showing her photographs of dead anthrax victims. There's no doubt the government was determined to find the villain behind the 2001 attacks --- especially after nearly 7 years had gone by without a solution to the case. But it's also clear----the F-B-I was trying not to overreach...and damage the agency's already tarnished reputation. The bureau has been embarassed in the past--by muddy investigations.....like the Centennial Olympic Park bombing probe that falsely accused Richard Jewell....and the smearing of an innocent man ----- Ivins' colleague Steven Hatfill. While the government has yet to issue a motive for Ivin's actions -- it is blaming him for the anthrax letters that killed five people and sickened 17 others. But will that change the status of a lawsuit filed against the U.S. ---by family members of Ivin's alleged victims?? The FBI is expected to lay out much of its case ---for family members of victims--- beginning Wednesday. Authorities are expected to ask a federal judge to unseal documents revealing how the FBI closed in on Ivins. Those documents could answer some puzzling questions --related to the bizarre case. But the FBI warns --- some questions--- may simply never be answered. ___ ___, The Associated Press.(****END****) ANCHOR VOICE: Mike Gracia -------------------------VIDEO PRODUCER: Michael Waldon ------------------------------VIDEO SOURCE: APTN FILE --------------------------VIDEO APPROVAL: Donna Starddard ------------------------------

  • FBI is the gestapo of the corporate and banking rich ..both American and world wide.. the pinkertons of the twentyfirst century.

    DON'T TURN YOUR BACK

  • I was following till he said, "the FBI was trying not to overreach." Bribes, intense harrassment as described here. Where was the "not overreach" part. And this after Hatfil's treatment for 5 years?! Who writes this stuff?

  • that dr zack dude is the most suspicious to me but his name is hushed up

  • "some questions may never be answered" yeah our taxes pay for the government including the FBI, they should be accountable to the people and ANSWER all questions.

The AP needs to bombard the FBI with FoIA requests daily.

  • This is the smoking gun for the secrets of 9/11, are we as a people so ignorant.

  • This is like the 70's when the intelligence community was rocked by the abuses of the nixon adminstration. We might be hearing about this for a long time to come.
