Sol per me, gentil pastor,
Ho dolor de tuoi martiri,
Ho diletto del tuo amor,
Ma se pensi che soletto
Io ti debba riamar,
Pastorello, sei soggetto
Facilmente a tingannar.

Bella rosa porporina
Oggi Silvia sceglierà,
Con la scusa della spina
Doman poi la sprezzerà.
Ma degli uomini il consiglio
Io per me non seguirò...
Non perché mi piace il giglio
Gli altri fiori sprezzerò.


Translation:
If you love me, if you sigh
Only for me, dear shepherd,
I am sorry for your suffering;
Still, I delight in your love.
But if you think that solely
I will love you in return,
Little shepherd, then you are
Easily deceiving yourself .

Today Silvia will choose
An Attractive purple rose
Tomorrow she will exclude it
For it has some thorns
But men's advice
I will not follow...
Why would I exclude other flowers?
Just because the lily pleases me?
