Ugh, the books had terrible writing; read more like an 8th grader's short story, the characters were as shallow as shot glass, development and plot were non-existent, plus logical paradoxes. Yeah, there is actually a site that has compiled the flaws in logic this book makes about its own mythos.
I agree, it is like a toilet. A toilet that was clogged with a copy of High School Musical 3, the Jonas Brothers, and somebody threw glitter onto instead of getting rid of it when it started to stink.
