Lyrics

Well I wake up in the morning
With my hair down in my eyes
And she says "hi"

And I hurry to the breakfast table
While the kids are goin' off to school, goodbye.

And she reaches out and takes my hand
And squeezes it, and says how you feeling hon?

And I look across at smiling lips
That warm my heart, and I see my morning sun.

And if that's not lovin' me,
Then all I've got to say,

God didn't make the little green apples,
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summer time.
There's no such thing as Dr. Seuss
Disneyland and Mother Goose,
No nursery rhymes.

God didn't make the little green apples,
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summer time.
And when myself is feeling low,
I think about your face aglow and ease my mind.

Sometimes I call him up, knowing he's busy.
To ask if he could get away, meet me
Maybe grab a bite to eat.

And he drops what he's doing
Hurries down to meet me, and I'm always late.

But he sits waiting patiently,
And smiles when he first sees me,
Cause he's made that way.

And if that's not loving me,
Then all I got to say,

God didn't make the little green apples,
And it don't snow in Minneapolis when the winter comes.
There's no such thing as make-believe,
Puppy dogs or autumn leaves, no bb guns.

God didn't make the little green apples,
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summer time.
And when myself is feeling low,
I think about your face aglow and ease my mind...

  • hi my father in law use to play this on the guitar when we were having a guitar party. Oh how sweet he would play we'd all stop singing and listen to this song. We miss you papa smurf always in our hearts.

  • I think they won't ever put it on CD. I saw Glen Campbell at his own theater in Branson, Missouri, about '95, and the women in the giftshop had never even heard of it. Finally, a college boyfriend found it for me on vinyl. But when we broke up, he returned the empty sleeve and never gave me back the album >( Lol,

  • My mother played this album over and over when I was a child (along with his others). I remember doing housework and listening to this. Great memories! Thanks for sharing it!

  • thank you for posting this, brings back great memories

  • @MOORE90SLWX I would suggest you listen to what Frank Sinatra said about this song. I'll take his opinion over yours, if you don't mind.

  • @nbanta031496 - Hell no - you're just an old soul - you'll do just fine - much peace young one...

  • worst song i have ever heard. period

  • @nbanta031496 No it's not weird.. OLD souls are the best! I was one too and I am still years ahead! :)

  • Wow! This is available for download at Amazon.com! How wonderful is technology? I think my Mother wore out this record and I love it to this day! Brings back such good memories and this was my favorite cut on the album! Thanks for posting, or I would have never thought to look for a digital version of it!
