They mimic the appearance of vipers of the genus Vipera (possibly Macrovipera as well) and when they feel threatened, they flatten their heads, puff up their bodies, hiss and do mock strikes with the mouth closed.

    This is a snake that I almost never handle. He'll musk me 90% of the time.

  • Wow those things have really fast strikes!!! We have similar mimicry here in the US, with Nerodia puffing up and mimicking Agkistrodon.
