The legendary Corksrew at Alton Towers from the 'your day DVD'. Staring ME! (second row right, green hoodie)

The Opening Paragraph reads;

Twist and turn the original Alton Towers classic: the Corkscrew has been here sinse 1980 and its steep drops and classic double inversion still have the power to thrill.

  • y did they take it away it was well good

  • Alton towers need that area to build a new (world first) ride in 2010. Unfortunately this meant corkscrew had to go. There was no room elsewhere in the park - the ride itself wasnt as thrilling as others and the costs to keep it running and the effect it had on the environment were the last nails in the coffin.

    Fortunately it has been said that though to ride will be going to scrap the corkscrew sections will be kept and placed somewhere about the park.

  • good ride why did it go why?????????????

  • i loved corkscrew!!!! =)

  • Talk about worlds first! More like worlds worst! Thi13teen has to be the worst secret weapon Alton Towers has ever had. Even though Corkie was an old rust bucket it was still much better that Thi13teen! But I still think that the Rita theme in dark forest does not go with Thi13teen and they should think about renaming Rita in to something better! R.I.P - Corkscrew 1980 - 2008!

  • never been on it and looks alot better that th13teen but those metal bars look pretty close O.o

  • It was a treasure, not only for putting Alton Towers on the map but it was the 1st double inversion rollercoaster in Britain. In its later years it did leave you with slight neck pains but I loved it. Was also cool how they painted the top of the track brown and green to blend in with the trees to keep the locals happy!

    I went a recently and loved how they have repainted and mounted the legendary corkscrews at the park entrance. A fitting tribute to make sure it stays part of the park forever.

  • the same we have in germany

  • 1:15 epic

  • they have put a part of it on display at alton towers xx

  • Honestly, the ride looks boring, and it looks like you'd better have an Advil at the ready...

  • was a great ride, but ya head gets mashed everywhere in the seats :L
