Government research on the feared foot-and-mouth virus may move from isolated Plum Island, N.Y. to a site on the mainland. The question is if the virus escaped, could an outbreak be contained? (April 11 2008)

Those labs are not safe I live in the uk and believe me we had a outbreak that they didn't mention about 4 years back or so and that was from a US lab they contained it thankfully but if that happened here it will happen there in the states they will let it out by mistake and not tell anyone and then wait till it to how it will go thankfully the farmer noticed it in his cattle before its had time to spread.
