This is the second video of the 'Tiny' engine. I have it to where it starts and runs quite dependably although I still can't start it by hand. It has a .375 dia. bore and runs on gasoline (86 octane) with a spark ignition. The spark plug has a Corian insulator and the thread is 8-32 NC. It has an 'O' ring to seal the piston but I think I will switch over to piston rings in the future.

  • I am thinking of building this engine, Could you tell me if you used a o ring on the piston or the conventional cast iron ring?, Great build by the way !!!!!! colin.

  • @buckcreekman1

If you go to the HMEM site there is a complete build of the engine plus drawings. Some use O rings, some use iron piston rings while one fellow just uses a lapped piston.

  • Would you recommend building tic engine to a beginner who already has a steam engine under his belt? Are you planning to post plans for it? Great job, by the way.

  • @IamJRPetersen

I wouldn't recommend this engine as a first IC engine. Although it's not hard to build the parts are so small that they have to be almost precision made. If you still are interested the plans are free on the HMEM website.

  • does it have a suction intake valve? and do u think it would run with a glow plug?

  • @superfunnyman123

Yes it has what they call and atmospheric intake valve. It is not cam operated but opened by the vacuum in the cylinder. No it wouldn't run with a glow plug because the compression is not high enough.

  • do you sell this engine ,if yes i will buy it.

any ways i loved it .......great job

  • I don't think you do any better with metal piston rings. The o-ring on my miniature hit-n-miss has taken a lot of abuse and has no compression loss, even when the head and cylinder are heated from running to well above the boiling point. Nice engine and work. Thanks for posting. Later, Rick.

  • Wonderful engine, i have the same but with a glow plug ignition. Can you direct me to where i can but a complete miniature spark plug ignition system for the engine?

    Thanks.

  • good one better than myn myn blow up

  • at how many rpm does it run? 'cause it sounds like its running pretty high rpm's

  • It would probably run better with real piston rings.
