Holy crap those aren't pullups at all. He's just swinging around and doesn't even clear the bar with his chin.

@spicychicken2000 yeah you have a point but how many videos do you see where there are crossfitters using medballs to mark their depth? Automatically it should be full depth every time thats it.
-
@KennyBrx using the medball makes it an official rep.. or else ppl could say he "cheated"
-
Just saying this and maybe someone will agree...a good crossfitter shouldnt use a med ball to mark how deep they should go. It should below parallel all the time. Using the med ball helped I feel like

jonnybravo8 this workout isnt designed to build strength, it's designed to increase work capacity; effectively its an intense cardio workout combining a functional strength training move with a gymnastic variation. Try it out before you slate it again ;)

This is the video that got me into CrossFit. Madness.
Crossfit views any movement in terms of efficiency and practicality. In the same way an Olympic lifter uses body movement and form to lift much more than simple muscle capacity will allow, those 'swinging' pull ups are effective and producing the desired result, which is getting the chin over the bar. You would do the same thing if presented the same obstacle in real life (you'd use every advantage you could get). Dead hang for muscle development, kip for efficiency of movement. Hard either way.

@2200mason In crossfit those two (strict v kipping) are considered to be two dif. exerc. with dif. purpose. There are workouts where you do deadhang pullups as well. For a good summary, there's an article about this on physicalliving, just google kipping vs strict pullups and you'll get the article in the first results. Being used to kipping (and deadhang), I would consider his form (in the realm of kipping) to be quite good. Feel free to read it and get back with your opinion =)
