Foraminutethere23 is right. A person who is not actively on duty with a military, naval, police, or fire fighting organisation is considered a civilian. Thus, police officer isn't a civilian unless off duty.

I don't know if you've ever heard an active duty police officer refer to the public as civilians when setting up a perimeter but they quite often do.

well studies show that this so called ''Self defense'' actually does more harm than good. And without guns you wouldn't need proper marksmanship or firearm safety. These are very simplistic arguements.

Police have many tools at their disposal, and consider gun fire a last resort.

So do law abiding gun owners.

they train together in the same classes and shooting ranges. you couldn't tell them apart in plain clothes.

they learn de-escalation and how to use other tools to avoid gun fights. Citizens learn to walk away and look like a fool, be extra polite, to avoid gun fights.

thats why, statistically, concealed carry permit holders are very responsible and have low crime records.
