A good clip to educate us about the Semai tribe. It would be better if you actually film some of the daily activities they do, since the title says "The Life of Others". Some of the answers she gave doesn't really answered the questions and gives us a vague image. Well done.

Being catagorized as an 'Others' is just yet another way of segregating or in this case, subjugating people in the sense that their identity is being taken advantaged of. It's frankly quite sad and in this case; quite real. Good work.

Well thank you for your feedback, well the population of the orang asli have been mentioned in the video, there are about 170000 orang asli in Malaysia, and well about the computer voice, sorry about that, didnt know it would turn out that way, it was worse when we tried to use our voice so we thought this will be better.

Like what everyone here has pointed out.
- use a human voice is even better than using a computerized version
- several grammar mistakes
- her opinions and answers are not strong enough or rather makes no sense when answering some of the questions

the computerized narration makes the video interesting but weird at the same time, there are parts where it speaks too fast, there are also minor grammar and format mistakes, you don't say 'orang aslis' as the plural form, lastly i don't see how her opinions would represent the population in a whole

By calling them 'others', we have no intention to segregating the orang asli. We are seeing the reality that the society is segregating the orang asli and pretend that they don't even exist. Therefore, we called them 'other'. It is quite sad, though, remembering that it is actually them who are the first people living in this country.

I find that this documentary has enlightened me in such a way that I have misunderstood the Semai Tribe and maybe most of the other tribes considered as Orang Asli when it comes to using resources. In this documentary, the lady had said that her people uses only enough resources to sustain in order to prevent any wastage. All along I have never thought about it that way.
MrJLeeBeanz 2 months ago
@MrJLeeBeanz Thanks for your feedback, and yes, it is one of the things we should follow them to do in our lives. We, who called ourselves 'modern' people, take all resource available because of our greed. Ironically, as educated people we should already know that most of the resources take millions of years or more to form. Therefore, we shouldn't waste them. But we have been doing that and now while we are running out of those resources, we desperately look for other resources.

From this video, you cannot say you collected information as a collective for the aborigines of Malaysia. The conclusion would be you have information on the semai tribe. If you present by using this example to represent the entire aborigines population in malaysia, that's a hasty generalization and in a way stereotyping. Both which are barriers to higher-order of thinking.
Daneil303 2 months ago
@Daneil303 Our purpose is to introduce people to the Orang Asli in Malaysia and that they also have some problems in life just like what people in the city are facing. We chose the woman, Tijah Yok Chopil, as Peninsular Malaysia Orang Asli Network coordinator. We don't randomly chose a woman who live in one of the village of Orang Asli which is why I think it is not a hasty generalization. We are just showing example of a tribe of Orang Asli and the problem it is facing.
