The blue variant of D. auratus, also known as auratus "calobre". Here you see the female feeding on drosophila - listen well you will hear the male call in the background. Females of D. auratus are always less shy than males! I reckon this is because they have to feed much more for egg production.

They aren't in a tank. but in nature they are only slightly venomous when they feel scared(which will make you a little bit ill).

  • Beautiful creatures. But how are these venomous?

  • where did you get this frog

  • i have a pair of these and a pair of leucs:)

  • @repticular

    dont look then!

  • i dont like the the aratus pattaren

  • you have very pretty auratus, costa rican?

  • very nice auratus, indeed! i should be getting my first auratus in less than a week. the group is 0.0.4, and they are costa rican green & blacks... also grabbing a 0.0.4 of D. leucomelas 'nominate' as well, so the next weekend should be really fun! i already keep various hylids, rhacs, and bufos... along with other dendrobatids like D. azureus [now concidered a morph of D. tinctorius, of course], and D. tinctorius [surinam cobalt.]

your auratus are quite stunning! thank you for sharing!!!

  • nice background call ... any luck with them breeding and raising froglets?

  • how shy are they.
