Maybe that type brush is irratating him? I find that type brush can hurt the skin if brushed too hard or for too long.
I've used same brush and one time made accident of brushing for too long and it hurt Saya. She just walked off I checked the area and it was bit red from it so now I be sure to brush lightly and not too hard. Maybe work on desensitizing the brush so it's a good thing..
