What could have been disaster for Wayne Washington and his East Irondequoit Eastridge teammates turned into a spark. The Lancers were behind late in the first half of their pivotal Monroe County Division III game with Greece Athena, when a kickoff bounced past Washington, a senior. Washington kept cool, picked up the ball and led Athena tacklers on a zigzag chase during a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Lancers never trailed after that shocking moment during their homecoming game Friday night and won the matchup of unbeaten teams, 27-10.
