It can be a chore to set up a PS3 to use component, as you have to switch connectors between composite and component inputs on your TV - or possibly multiple screens. I set up this video on SD to record the steps needed to switch from composite to component, so that you can connect it and do it blind without having to fiddle with the cables halfway through. Just follow along and you should be able to get it running really easily.

Remember that you can reset your video defaults on the PS3 to basic SD by holding down the power button until you hear three quick beeps when turning it on. The default for the XMB is the PSN tab rather than Games, so if you have that default remember to move seven steps left and not five.

This video was filmed on UK firmware 3.30 and so may not apply to any firmware with significant changes. The TV tab may not appear on PS3 firmware that differs in region - I suggest checking to see if your XMB appears the same before following these steps and adjust them accordingly.

  • I have a slim and when i hold the power button to reset the settings it doesnt works.

so i need to know do u have a ps3 slim and with no is it the same on the slim??

  • @MultiSlawa I have an older one, but it should be the same. When the PS3 is off, hold the power button down. It'll beep once - keep holding it. When it beeps again it'll reset your video settings.

  • I'm really glad you guys are finding this useful - thanks for letting me know. I'll probably post an update if a new firmware that comes out that changes the steps needed.
