* 1 Honda EU2000iA generator (http://bit.ly/dLy0oD)

* Extended Fuel System 6 gallon (http://bit.ly/jF8z3R)

* DC Charging Cord (http://amzn.to/m7isKs)

* Storage Cover

* Parallel Cable -- In case I get another generator. (http://amzn.to/iTwKpd)

* With our 2 trucks 44 gallon and gas cans on hand we have 125 gallons of gas

* The generator can run for 20 days on full output (1 gallon = 4 hours of 1,300 watt- 1,850 watt output). This is needed for the 1,500 watt heater in the winter.

* If the output is 400 watts or less the generator will run 26 hours on 1 gallon

* Blitz 11010 5 Gallon Steel Gas Can (http://amzn.to/iTMq5I)

* Reliance Controls THP103 AmWatt Generator Appliance Wattage/Amps Load Tester (http://amzn.to/mKoPDC)

* OnGuard 5018HD Beast Chain Bicycle Lock (160cm x 11mm) to lock up the generator when used outside. (http://amzn.to/mgZaJd)

*Wireless motion sensor and audio mic and speaker next to the generator outside. (http://amzn.to/kkPBxJ)

* If we still have gas but no power I have rigged an inline plug that I can hook up to the generator to have the blower motor still engage.

  • Have you thought about converting it to run on Propane? Best thing I ever did. You will never gum up the valves and it is infinitely safer to store large amounts of propane than 5 gallons of gas. Plus propane never goes bad so you dont have the hassle of rotating expensive premium gas. For what you have invested in the metal Jerry Cans, you could have had a 420# propane tank. You can get big tanks that you can bury too.

    You ROCK!g

  • @csiebert2 I was looking at the converter kits available for them. I think they had a multi-fuel kits also. Our city won't let I do anything with our land (tanks). But personal property rights is another topic.

  • @Terratracks The generator outlet and connection indoors is isolated from the main grid power. You can install a relay that switches form grid to generator, but to be honest i would rather do it manually (switch) myself. Just in case the relay blows and shorts out.

  • Yes Solar is good if you don't live in Northern Canada when it's dark for most of the day 6+ months of the year. I install solar kits and keeping the panels clear of snow and ice is several times a day job. You need a-lot of 2vDC DD batteries to make it worth the effort.

    More efficient solar cells do exist but the oil magnas won't allow them to be sold to the public. People want to change but no one is letting them.

  • Here's my problem. You're losing alot with such long lines (resistance) and in a real life scenario, EVERYONE and your grandmother, and your friend's grandmothers are going to be sitting in line for gasoline IF IT'S EVEN AVAILABLE. I would invest in a very good solar powered chrgd generator, seriously. The gas is fine in theory, but when the SHTF, you are not going to want to rely on gasoline. It's coming too.

  • Backfeeding Can Be Dangerous if done improperly! Done properly it will pass code and is safe. If you do it without isolating the grid from your generator by turning off the Main Breaker or Breakers in your panel - you could kill or injure people working on the power lines outside of your home. Once the 220V from your generator hits the nearest transformer it gets "transformed" to higher voltages and ZZZZZAAAAAPPPP! some poor sucker doesn't get to go home to his family that night.

  • @OUtsidethenine4eva Can't argue with you on that! Any supplies that will feed you, keep you warm or create energy for you would be an asset!

  • @catexan either way, vegetable oil and olive oil are two of the most valuable things you can stock up on, IMO

  • @markelliotkorn. You are incorrect. Adding a second generator wired in PARALLEL doubles the amperage AND WATTAGE. Remember Volts x Amps = Watts. Increase te amos on a 120v circuit, you naturally increase the wattage.

    I have two Hondas and one big Subaru genny for the house. Anybody that tries to steal my generator during a "disaster" is getting a shit load of bullets first from my many assault weapons and 4 sons!

  • @Mrinfoone backfeeding is dangerous
